The Phase II Project of DaChan Bay Container Terminal, Shenzhen Port is a key port infrastructure project of Guangdong Province and Shenzhen City under the 14th Five-Year Plan. It also serves as a core construction project for expanding and upgrading the western port area of Shenzhen, improving the regional container transport system and consolidating Shenzhen’s status as an international shipping hub. Located in the core zone of DaChan Bay Port Area in Bao’an District, the project follows the overall development layout of “One Body, Three Wings” of Shenzhen Port. It aims to fill the shortage of container capacity in the western port area and work in synergy with the existing Phase I works to build a large-scale, specialized and intelligent modern container operation port zone. It carries important strategic significance for optimizing the layout of deep-water ports in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and enhancing the capacity for ocean shipping.
With a scientific master plan and complete functional system, the core construction scope comprises large specialized container berths, standard container yards, port internal roads, cargo-handling supporting equipment, production auxiliary buildings and comprehensive operation & maintenance facilities. The project is constructed in two coordinated sections: the northern section and the southern section. Multiple new 200,000-tonne dedicated container berths are planned to accommodate berthing and operation of large ocean-going container vessels. The northern section features a shoreline of 744.36 meters, a land area of approximately 36.05 hectares and a designed annual container throughput of 1.5 million TEU. The southern section has a total shoreline of 955.53 meters and a land area of around 523,000 square meters, with a designed annual handling capacity of 2 million TEU. Upon full completion, the project will greatly boost DaChan Bay Port’s capabilities in berthing large vessels, cargo handling and container stacking.
Built in strict compliance with modern port construction standards, the project optimizes the spatial layout of waterside and land areas within the port. It unifies the elevation and structural standards at the quay front and adopts proven and reliable hydraulic construction technologies for ports. Complete supporting hardware and software are deployed for port collection and distribution corridors, dispatching & maintenance, safety assurance and smart management & control. It fully connects maritime and land transportation routes within the port and establishes an efficient and smooth port collection and distribution system. Through the integrated construction of terminal main structures and on-land supporting facilities, the project effectively raises cargo turnover efficiency, operational bearing capacity and intelligent operation level, fully supporting core businesses including domestic and foreign trade container transportation, ocean logistics and cross-border freight services inside and outside the port.
As a landmark expansion and upgrading project for Shenzhen’s western port area, the project is tailored to the shipping and logistics demands of the Greater Bay Area. After completion, it will effectively expand the container throughput scale of Shenzhen Port, optimize port capacity layout, ease freight pressure on the western port zone and strengthen the connectivity between Shenzhen Port and the global shipping network. Meanwhile, it will further improve supporting facilities for the regional modern logistics industry, facilitate coordinated development of Shenzhen-Hong Kong shipping and improve the quality and efficiency of cross-border logistics in the Greater Bay Area. It will consolidate Shenzhen’s strategic position as the core international shipping hub of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and provide solid port infrastructure support for the high-quality development of the regional export-oriented economy.
