The School of Medicine project of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is located in the core zone of the International University Park in Longgang District, Shenzhen. Adjacent to the scenic Immortal Lake and blessed with unique mountain and water ecological resources, it is a landmark university construction project under Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation to support the development of medical education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Covering a total land area of approximately 235,000 square metres with a total gross floor area of around 558,000 square metres, the project is planned for an enrolment of 6,000 students. Leveraging the mature cluster of universities in this area, it shares complementary resources with neighbouring higher education institutions to form an intensive, high-quality higher education development ecosystem.
The master plan of the project fully integrates the original mountain-water topography and natural ecology. Campus buildings and functional spaces are laid out in accordance with local conditions. Natural landscapes and ecological green spaces are deeply blended with teaching, research and public activity zones, creating a modern ecological medical school with pleasant surroundings, rational layout and complete functions. The project features a comprehensive construction system, including standard teaching buildings, high-end research laboratories, a specialized library, modern student colleges, faculty and student apartments, indoor sports venues and supporting auxiliary facilities. It fully accommodates all scenarios such as medical teaching, cutting-edge scientific research, library services, residential life for faculty and students, as well as cultural and sports activities, establishing an integrated, intelligent and professional hardware support system for medical education.
As a core platform for collaborative education between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, rooted in the Healthy China Initiative and the medical industry demands of the Greater Bay Area, the project inherits the international education philosophy of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It focuses on cultivating top-tier medical talents and conducting innovative biomedical research, building an integrated medical talent training system covering undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes. Campus spatial planning accommodates multiple functions including teaching and practical training, research breakthroughs, academic exchanges and public services. It meets the daily needs of basic medical education and clinical training, and also provides a high-quality platform for cutting-edge medical innovation, inter-university academic collaboration and industry-university-research integration.
Upon completion, the project will fully address the shortage of high-end medical higher education infrastructure in Shenzhen and improve the regional system for medical education and research innovation. It will continuously foster international, innovative and interdisciplinary medical talents, boost the high-quality development of healthcare services and the biomedical industry in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area, and evolve into a core demonstration base for integrated Shenzhen-Hong Kong medical education, medical technological innovation and high-end talent aggregation.
